Two mountaineers lost their lives on Wednesday morning, during their ascent to the Lanín Volcano, in a sector located on the border between the Argentine Republic and Chile, according to the authorities of the Lanín National Park.
The incident occurred at an altitude of approximately 3,100m, during the first hours of the day, affecting four members of a group of eight climbers. Two of them, whose identities have not been revealed so far, died in the act, while two others suffered trauma and were transferred for their attention.
As we said, the identity of the mountaineers did not transcend, although it was confirmed that they are a climber of Uruguayan nationality and a woman from Mendoza.
Participants in the rescue operation were the central zone park rangers, authorized guides from the Lanín National Park, crews from the ICE Junín and San Martín de los Andes, members of the Argentine Army and the helicopter from the National Fire Management Service, along with volunteer firefighters from San Martín de los Andes and Junín de los Andes.
It unofficially transpired that the injured climbers suffered a fall of about 300 meters, in an area of glacial transit. The deceased woman would have suffered a severe head trauma. The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m.
