April has begun, and with the month, the activity of the 2025 Himalayan season. Teams on Annapurna above Base Camp.
The 14 Peaks Expeditions team is making steady progress on Annapurna I. Today, Victor Hugo Rimac Trejo from Peru and Chunqi Yan from China are moving to Camp III for additional rotations, while the rest of the team has safely returned to Base Camp. All are in good condition, recovering and preparing for the next phase of the climb.
The team includes climbers from all over the world. Eduard Kubatov of the Kyrgyz Republic holds the record for the oldest person to climb Manaslu without supplemental oxygen, achieving this feat at the age of 50 in 2022.
Mindaugas Satkauskas of Lithuania has summited Manaslu, Everest, and Lhotse, becoming the first Lithuanian to complete the 24-hour Double Lhotse. He is now on track to complete all fourteen eight-thousanders. Maria Kim of Russia is also part of the team. Chunqi Yan of China and, as previously mentioned, Victor Hugo Rimac Trejo of Peru, a mountain guide certified with the AGMP and UIAGM, continue their rotations to higher camps.
The climbers spent last night at Camp II under the guidance of 14 Peaks Expedition’s experienced guides, Mingmar Sherpa and Pasang Nurbu Sherpa. The entire team remains in good health and spirits as they prepare for the next steps. Meanwhile, the rope-fixing team, led by Imagine Nepal, has made significant progress and is nearing the summit. However, Annapurna has developed numerous crevasses this year, making the climb more challenging and slowing the final push.
Light snowfall is expected on Friday, with temperatures set to drop to -34°C. After Friday, the weather is expected to improve, with less wind in the coming days.
